This is a process (not a program) by which adults and older children are received into the church. Possible candidates for this process are:
Unbaptized adults or older children who may wish to learn more about the Catholic faith.
Sacrament of Baptism: To request Baptism for your child, please call the office at 585-223-5500 and ask for Sister Barbara Baker to schedule a conversation. Preparation time gives time for parents to reflect on their own faith and church connection. For older children, please see the section on RCIA.
In accordance with the Diocesan Policy, children are encouraged to prepare for the Sacrament of Penance and/or Eucharist as they near the age of seven. Children must have completed one full year of Faith Formation or be enrolled and currently attending a Catholic School the year immediately prior to the year they plan to prepare and receive either sacrament.
First Penance and First Eucharist are now recieved in the same year and First Penance taking place in the fall and First Eucharist in the spring.
Our expectation and hope, is that the family is atteding Mass regulary and is fully engaged in the overall process of catechizing and preparing their child to recieve either or both sacraments.
Our peparation sessions will always include one parent with their child so that the journey is experienced together, making it condusive for additional conversations and understanding beyond the classroom.
To see our calendar for the year for grades K-5, including all immediate preparation sessions, click on the tab to your left. For more information contact the office at 585-223-5500.
Sacrament of Confirmation: 8th Grade (year one) & 9th Grade (year two) or any other time you wish to begin! In each of these years the kids will continue their faith formation journey in preparation for Confirmation at the end of 9th grade or when they complete the second cycle of the curriculum.
Attending our comprehensive youth ministry program or attending a Catholic school is required at least one year prior to beginning the immediate preparation process for all sacraments. Attending Mass regularly is of course always a part of our faith journey.
Please refer to the Confirmation Preparation calendar for all dates and requirements.
The 2020 Confirmation celebration date has not been assigned to yet however, the celebration does take place 7pm - 9pm at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
For more information call 585-223-5500.
Sacrament of Matrimony: Preparing for marriage should be entered into very mindfully. There are parish and diocesan requirements to be fulfilled so couples are fully prepared for this very special sacrament. It is best not to set a date until contacting the parish and scheduling your conversation with our pastoral associate six to nine months ahead of the wedding if possible. Contact the parish office at 585-223-5500 and ask for Sister Barabara Baker and she will be more than happy to assist you.
Anointing of the Sick: Anytime that is needed. Please call the parish office.
“If some of you hear the call to follow Christ more closely, to dedicate your entire heart to Him, like the apostles John and Paul, be generous, do not be afraid, because you have nothing to fear when the prize that you await is God himself, for Whom, sometimes without ever knowing it, all young people are searching.”
-Pope John Paul II (Asuncion, Paraguay; May 18, 1988)
